Dave Johnson has led the transformation of under-performing business units into market leaders within a short period of time by creating customer-focused organizations that produce maximum revenue growth and operational excellence worldwide. This involves driving sustainable cultural change, rapid new product development and building high-performance operations focused on the customer.
Dave has multi-national experience in North/South/Central America, Europe, and Asia. He has 20+ years of demonstrated leadership in business development, new product ideation, production and commercialization with both capital and consumable products. He was a team leader in the development of Stryker’s acute care and ICU beds, ER and EMS Stretchers; ConMed’s GI/Endosurgery products and Invacare’s Power Rehab, Continuing Care and Personal Care line.
In his previous role at Steris as SVP of Global Operations, Quality and Continuous Improvement, Dave led over 1,300 employees, 10 plants and 2 distribution centers throughout the world. Under his leadership, he integrated the supply chain, planning and manufacturing functions into a global operations organization. He led the deployment of Lean in operations, quality, R&D and administration with over 250 kaizen events in 24 months, yielding $6M in realized productivity.
Prior work experience ranges from global publicly-held manufacturers such as Stryker, ConMed and Invacare to equity-backed Air Products Healthcare. Dave was also the co-founder of ErgoSafe Medical, a medical device start-up with rapidly growing revenues, resulting in a sale to a public company in less than two years.
Dave is Lean Certified by TBM and led both Invacare and ConMed to achieve the TBM’s “Perfect Engine Site Award” for excellence in Lean implementation, an award only given to a total of nine companies since its existence.
Dave and his teams have been featured in Business Week, USA Today, CNY Business Journal, and U.S. Business Review. In addition, his LeanSigma implementation at ConMed was highlighted in an extensive case study article in the Q4 2009 issue of Managing Times.
Dave received an MBA in Supply Chain/Operations Management from Michigan State University and earned a BA from Albion College. He is a patent holder for a user interface for an Electrotherapy and Ultrasound medical device.
